A limited number of puppies are expected throughout the year. Experience has shown that handling newborn puppies puts a certain amount of stress on them, which enables them to better cope with training later in life.

Our puppies are well socialized and people-friendly, with children and adults. They not only make excellent hunting companions but great family pets as well.

Although the main focus of our breeding program is grouse and woodcock dogs, our Setters and Pointers have been extremely useful in hunting other forms of upland birds: pheasants, quail and chukors.

Here at Chenango Valley Kennels we handle our puppies from the moment they are born to the time they are sold. We feel the traditional seven week age for selling dogs is an artificial standard. Most breeders sell at this early age because it is easier, that is to say more economical with little or no handling involved.

At our facility we take the extra time and effort to expose our puppies to lots of birds. The value of this is that the puppy will learn how to handle game at an early age, providing a solid foundation for more advanced training with you, the owner.

The average person buys a seven week old puppy and does little as far as exposing him/her to birds until eight to twelve months of age. By this time the puppy has lost valuable training time. We recommend purchasing one of our  fourteen week old started puppies, thus making your life easier as well as your puppy's. 

Our training program for puppies and advanced dog training is coupled with empirical and established teaching methods. This is an on
going process, 365 days a year.
